The Bay of Christmas is located at the southern most end of Jalisco state, in the cihuatlan municipality. 4 towns look at the bay: Barra de Navidad, San Patricio Melaque, Villa Obregon and Cuastecomates. Cihuatlan has a shore line 30 kilometer long, formed by small beaches and cobstac lagoons.
BARRA DE NAVIDAD
The Bay of Christmas has a small and beautiful port town called Barra de Navidad, this picturesque fishermen's pot is surroundep by fascinating landscapes of exuberant tropical beatiful, delicately preserved, which due to its atmosphere of peacefulness, has become one of the favorite sites for both national and international tourism.
Here, there are interesting places, the Triton and Nereida sculpture is a symbol of costalegre (Merrycoast)and in Barra de Navidad it is a historical monument commemorating the fourth centennial of the maritime expedition that achieve the discovery of the phillipine islands.
The panoramic breakwater has an extraordinary view of the lagoon which is separated from the ocean by the sandbar of Christmas. The pedestrian zones have souvenir stand, shops and safe recreation areas.
In the downtown area there is the parish church where you can see the cyclone christ with his fallen arms. In the flea market on Lopez de Legazpi st. as well as in other store fronts you can find regional as well as out of state crafts. Barra de Navidad and San Patricio Melaque are head quarters of important fishing tournaments, such as: the international fishing tournament of sail fish, marlin ans golden. The international marlin tournament, the international sail fish tournament, which take during the month of february.
SAN PATRICIO, MELAQUE.
San Patricio is adjacent to Villa Obregon. It is an extense beach located in the most naturally protecte portion of the Bay of Christmas. with a soft surge, a regular slope with gray, golden medium texture sand.
It is the most important commercial center in the area and sailing and sport fishing are practiced here.
From a nice overlook at point Melaque you can appreciate the splendor of the bay of christmas landscape.
To the west it is possible to admire the open sea and at the overlook level, navigation, sailing, lower jungle and palm trees.
Melaque is characterized by its splendid familiar environment in which the tropical climate and the warmth of its people will make you have a pleasing and cordial time.
